Saw this. I have done this before heaps of times. This is not new

Not exactly a brand new idea.

All good! My mulcher chomps up branches under 30mm, creating extra space in the bin. He's filling it up and helping us easily dispose of everything at once. Bravo!

but a mulcher is built for the job. The blades in the two machines are totally different. Mulching blades are like chaff cutter blades and have teeth like cogs.

Whether it's getting chucked in the backyard compost or taken to a fancy plant (and then sold back to us), it's a ripper idea to turn it into compost. No worries at all!
Jacob Adams
The smaller the pieces, the more will fit in the bin when working smartly.
Some folks gotta beef over everything. .... Get a clue...this dude is spittin' common sense.

If the prunings are really tough, don't bother doing it on your grass, because it will rip it up to dirt. Trust me, I've tried. And unless the wood is really soft, I wouldn't recommend anything thicker than 10mm-15mm going through the mower. I've learned the hard way.
I would put my mulcher waste directly into the bin.

That's not a bad idea at all! I've got a mulcher that I use to smash up branches under 30mm and it makes more space in the bin. He's filling it up and making it easier to get rid of everything in one shot. Good job!

A mulcher is the real deal for the job. The blades in the two machines are totally different. Mulching blades are similar to chaff cutter blades and have teeth on them.
Anderson Cameron
I'll use it as mulch since Blue Mountains Council doesn't have green waste bins and offers bulk kerbside mulching twice a year.

I don't use a mower for this, but I snip it all up small and pack it in, squishing it down tight when needed. Gotta do whatever it takes to fill up that bin! My dad always said, "Work smarter, not harder." 👌🤣

This ain't no fresh idea.

Basically, the tinier the bits, the more you can fit in the trash. He’s being clever, not busting his butt.

If the clippings are super tough, don't mow your lawn with them or else you'll ruin it. Trust me, I learned the hard way. Also, unless the wood is really soft, I wouldn't recommend mowing anything thicker than 10mm-15mm. I've made that mistake before too.

It's like a game of balancing acts - just keep in mind the weight limits set by the councils for your bins. With this trick, I can fit triple the amount of leaves in our bin, but gotta be careful not to go overboard. Easy peasy!
Phil Holmes
What's the deal with the weight, huh? Unless he plans on stuffing it with a ton of stuff before the next pickup, it will only weigh as much as a regular bin. It's just already mulched, making it easier to empty. Mulching up the garden clippings isn't any heavier than filling it with grass clippings.... View More

I'd throw my mulcher right into the trash.

Whether you're gonna toss it in your own compost pile or send it to a fancy plant to sell back to you, it's a total win-win for turning your scraps into compost without wasting any time.
Nathan Roberts
I plan to use it as mulch since Blue Mountains Council doesn't provide green waste bins. Twice a year they offer bulk kerbside mulching for residents to use in their gardens.

What's up with the weight, yo? Unless he's gonna pack it full of stuff before the next pick-up, it'll just weigh the same as a regular bin. It's already mulched so it's easier to dump. It all comes down to how much stuff you gotta toss, ya know? Just remember there's a limit on how heavy your bins can be, set by the council. I could cram way more leaves in our bin using this trick, but gotta watch that weight, easy peasy!
