So we thought we'd drop $600 mil to try and get a team from PNG, no offense but we need better fields to play football on.

This is gonna be an absolute bloody disaster, mate. When the NRL decides to bugger off, it's gonna be a real dud and leave a bad taste in the gob of the PNG footy community. Even a blind cockatoo can see it coming.
Larry Rogers
I'm all for this idea, especially since PNG has always been down for rugby league. If it helps with diplomacy and cuts Chinese influence, count me in.
Brendan Maloney
Why can't we reintroduce bears?
Jeremy Perry
There are a million reasons why this is a bad idea before we even start talking about kicking the ball around and trying to get players. It's bound to flop if they go through with it.
Michael Palmieri
Focus on building relationships with neighboring countries based on shared values and interests before allowing the PRC to gain influence through economic means. Stay vigilant.
Adrian Kellett
"No worries mate."
Earl Roberts
Should have stepped up for them with schooling and businesses 4 decades back.
Chris Williamson
I reckon most Aussies are saying we could use that 600 million bucks right here, mate!

they have the fair dinkum to reckon like that
Gary Holmes
I feel like I'm on Team PNG all by myself here! But hey, there are so many reasons to consider - like the crazy geopolitical stuff, PNG coming to Aus' rescue during WWII, their love for NRL, winning the QCup, and having Cairns and Townsville as home bases. Plus, not being in Port Moresby might keep ... View More

Well, hopefully this will light a spark in the young'uns in PNG to keep on truckin' in school past year 6. Who knows, it could even lead to some groovy local jobs! Of course, we'll need most people on board to make it a hit, but hey, stranger things have happened!
Adam Bush
And we're in a housing crunch.
John Watkins
It's like a game of political chess. We're cozying up to Papua New Guinea because of their relationship with China, and guess who's picking up the tab? Yep, us taxpayers.

A separate competition should be held between PNG and Pacific Islands.
Isaac Moore
The PM of PNG reckons he wants one, but the folks ain't keen. Classic case of a pollie not listening to the people and only looking out for themselves...
Adam Atwood
Ask 600+ families living in tents or cars if they'd rather have a house or a football team that has nothing to do with this country. Let's see what they say! 😏

There ain't no NRL team in PNG, mate.
How about dropping a few billion to improve education and work opportunities for the average PNG resident? Then we can bring in a 20th player from PNG in a decade!

It's gotta be Perth, mate.
Alistair Mallard
This would be like tackling a mountain of challenges - but hey, people have given it a go!
Brendan Wade
I don't think politics and sports should mix. I'm not a fan of a PNG team in the NRL. Even if they try to make it work, it's bound to flop eventually. NRL made a wrong move. Perth and Ipswich would be better choices.
The amount of money taken from PNG by Australians is much greater, so stop complaining and either leave or support the plan.
Get the Newtown Jets back before you even think about introducing PNG.
Mitch Burns
If they wanna add an 18th team, why not bring back the North Sydney Bears or grab another squad from Melbourne or elsewhere. That'd be a win for both the NRL and the fans.

Is Leisel Jones the top dog at Carlton Blues or what? AFL fans never shy away from praising the NRL, right?
Christopher Price
Don't be blowing taxpayer cash on useless stuff. Take care of our own peeps who are in a tough spot. Not cool, Albo.
Brett Smith
Another top-notch Albo "Shower Thought" notion.
Mike Ferguson
I believe we should focus on helping the needy in our country instead of adding more foreign teams.
