Throw a party and invite everyone except that sheila. Then chuck her an invite at the last minute. It's a bit petty, but it'll teach the mum a lesson and hopefully make her think twice. Plus, the kid still gets to come and won't feel left out.

The mom believes in participation awards for all kids, but children should learn to not be the center of attention and be inclusive. If a child is left out, find out why and address the issue. Discrimination should not be tolerated.

I don't buy that idea! Kids are drawn to each other for all kinds of reasons. I didn't force my daughter to invite every single kid from her class or sports team - that was totally her call based on who she's friends with. I think mom is laying down her own issues on the kids. It's up to us to teach them how to handle tough situations and be tough themselves. Lesson one: we can't control other people's actions. Lesson two: not everyone is your buddy. Lesson three: you get to pick your own squad.

In Straya, it's up to folks to teach their kids how to toughen up. Realizing that they won't always be part of everything is important. Being turned down is a fact of life that everyone has to learn to handle. As for what you're suggesting, if she has a job interview, she should definitely give it her best shot, even if she's not the perfect match or doesn't have all the qualifications. The entitlement is off the charts. Let your kid know it's not their special day, so they shouldn't expect to be included in someone else's party. Tell them to focus on something else. We stay out in the sticks in WA, and when our kids had to go to school after a big snowstorm, there were always trees and branches blocking the road. The bus driver brought a chainsaw and would hop out to clear a path while the kids helped drag the mess out of the way. That's just how we roll. 🤣
