Sounds like a good idea to me

I'd move there in a flash...too bloody hot though. The Queensland Government is crook as a dog's hind leg...and the councils down south east are no different.
Chris Reilly
I reckon it's a long shot, but I'd be keen as for it! Let's make the border at the Mary River and call it North Queensland.
Jackson Wright
We'll hang onto our coal cash and give the South East a run for their money this time...🤗
Mike Davis
I'll move my groove there
Steve Barnes
Hell yeah, it's about damn time North QLD starts slaying and stops letting Brisbane hold us back.

They be like, good fences create good neighbors- I be like, you gotta build a wall to be extra sure 👌
Troy Bennet
I'm heading up North!

It's only 'cause hipsters reckon we need Daylight Savings.

I used to live in Melbourne for 8 years but now I live in Queensland and I don't miss Daylight Saving.
Andrew Mooney
Let's just smash all them state governments and make everything, like health and education, run by the feds. Giving money to state gov's is just burning cash.

Yeah mate, Brisbane always gets the big bucks while us lot up here in the sticks are still waiting for the bloody Barron bridge to be sorted out.
Mick Kelly
Yeah, I ain't letting Brisbane run North Queensland. So hell yeah, why not?
Jayden Clark
Put up the fresh border around the edges of Brissy. Do the same for NSW (Newie, Syd & Gong) and we'd all be stoked.

Why have state governments when the federal government can oversee education, land titles, revenue, and healthcare with consistent standards and rules for everyone?

There are some real drongos up there... They even vote One Nation
Yes, funding from Rocky to up north would be ideal for improving infrastructure in North Queensland.
Danny Murphy
Southern Queensland may finally adopt daylight saving.

SE Queensland roads are like highways, while North Queensland roads are like goat tracks. A windscreen allowance for registered vehicles north of Rockhampton would help. I currently have to claim 3 times a year on insurance. Perhaps it's time for coal royalties to return to the area, regardless of s... View More

The real question is, should journalists know more about geography? Hell yeah. That border is about 700 km south of North Queensland.
Darren Miller
It's about damn time, the QLD government has been ignoring the north and regional towns for way too long. They make most of their money from us up here anyway, so they should invest in developing our economies. It would be much cheaper than building another tunnel for the folks down in the southeast... View More

We could definitely use more of those government folks, politicians, and bureaucrats - they're always a hoot!

South QLD needs to stop frontin' and come back to NSW like the old days!
Brenton James
Do Cairns or Townsville residents understand Brisbane being their capital when many may never visit?
Rob Henderson
I reckon living up North is pretty great. Don't reckon we need any more states, but it'd be bloody good to see the cash made up here stay up here. A few top-notch highways and some coal or nuclear power wouldn't go astray either.
Andrew Gray
No more politicians 😞
Luca Palumbo
I heard they're gonna name the upper part Kingsland

No way. The population in NQ is way too small to cover the cost of our infrastructure, let alone any new construction. If you think the roads are bad now, imagine not having the tax money from SE QLD for upkeep.
Yeah, we should stop the QLD 'hunger games' economy. North QLD's farming, mining, tourism, and marine industry money should stay in North QLD and not be sucked into Brisbane.
Queenslanders think they're all that!
Jeffrey Walker
All we need is for more of our hard-earned cash to be flushed down the toilet by the state government for something that won't even help us out.

Let's just split the sunny coast in half so we can have more daylight when we get home. We can have some fun at night events, thanks to daylight savings. I know some people up north complain about it, but we're the ones who need it the most with all our long drives and work hours. We deserve some su... View More

I think Bob Katter proposed this idea years ago - create a border around Brisbane and classify the rest as Regional Queensland. My concern is having too many politicians.
Alessandro Fontana
Discussion about making Cairns the capital was had 30 years ago, but a standalone state might struggle without a strong economy like the South.

Yes, the FNQ often receives insufficient funding for our essential services and infrastructure.
Add in the southeast corner, below Gympie and up in the mountains, make sure the southwest connects with Central Queensland, North Queensland, and Far North Queensland. They all get beat by the southeast corner too!!
