This happens all the time in the industry, at every level. I saw it myself when I was a teenager in the 80s. Horses have been treated way worse than in that video. Abuse is pretty much expected. That's why I got out and never looked back.

A lunge whip is like an extra long arm for getting your horse to go in a bigger circle and keep moving. Just a tiny tap with the whip should be enough to get them going, no need to go crazy with it. That's just too much and not needed.
